montevideo (IV)

“put your soul in the palm of my hand for me to look at, like a crystal jewel. i'll sketch it in words.”
― yasunari kawabata

parque rodó, montevideo. uruguay

take me back to simpler, greener days
of wandering in parks and befriending ducks;
of pressing yellow leaves in books
and falling half asleep under a bright, cold sky.

6/22/15

wrapped up in blankets and books

“she wanted—what some people want throughout life—a grief that should deeply touch her,
and thus humanize and make her capable of sympathy.”
 ― nathaniel hawthorne

i've spent the better half of the past week sick in bed
covered in layers of cotton and wool,
sneezing and drinking lots of tea.
also reading. a lot.

i really wish for the flu to go away,
but i cannot deny that, while sickly and annoyed,
this little time off work has been quite great.

new film photos as soon as i'm week enough to go to the lab!

have a wonderful day,

first days of autumn

"autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”
― albert camus

march, 2015.

as you may probably noticed, i've cheated and these are digital.
actually, they're ipod-vscocam-digital, so sorry about that :3
i'm still in the middle of a work storm
but autumn arrived and i just had to get out and capture it
if only in digital form on a super quick stroll around my neighbourhood.
because it is, after all, my favourite of all seasons.

there's something about autumn light i love so much
and all those different shades of green-yellow-gold
and the sound the leaves make when you walk
and, even when days get slowly colder, the general warmness of it all.
it's like the world becomes tinted with cinnamon and honey
and it even smells like it.

hope you're all having a wonderful day
and a happy start of the spring to all my darling northern hemisphere girls
i know you've all been eagerly waiting for the flowers to be in bloom once again

3/18/15

who knows where the time goes

"and i am not alone while my love is near me
i know it will be so until it's time to go
so come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again
i have no fear of time”

march, 1999.

around this time of the year, some 16 years ago,
when i was not even fifteen and film was still the norm,
and when plastic cameras were not in vogue,
i went away for a few days with a dear school friend
to a little, almost forgotten village
with this cheap and beautifully red rangefinder
and snap some photographs.

a lot of time has passed since
and while i've definitely changed a lot
i've also stayed pretty much the same,
always taking pictures of trees, landscapes and nature.

(boy, i do feel a little old now)

1/5/15

in bloom

"i am losing precious days. i am degenerating into a machine for making money.
i am learning nothing in this trivial world of men.
i must break away and get out into the mountains to learn the news."
john muir

october, 2014.

it's been months since i took a film photograph
and months of me neglecting this blog have passed.
i blame it on too much work,
the increasing costs of film rolls & labs,
and mostly on this little thing called instagram,
which is ever so addictive (and way, way cheaper!)

hopefully, sometime this year m. & i will be proper home owners
and all this effort will have been worth it
and things will be calmer, maybe even easier.
hopefully, i will have time for taking pictures and doing simple things;
and hopefully i'll even be able to get away from the city once or twice.
i miss the countryside
and the mountains
and the sea
and all things wild and free.
i miss them with my body and i miss them with my soul.

lilies in the valleys

'gather me lilies in the darkling valleys,
gather me lilies in the valleys of delight!'
'how can i gather lilies with no cloak to cover me,
and no shoes for stony ways, and it the dark night?'
'i will give you shoes of silver and a cloak for rainy weather,
i will set you in a love that laughs and a love that grieves;
i'll hold you and i'll fold you and we'll travel down together
where the lilies shine like seed-pearls in the wet, dark leaves.
and we'll gather the brittle lilies in the valley of delight,
and up from mossy mountains shall spring the lilied morning
like our love from the valley - from the valley of the night'

have a wonderful day

vamos hacia los árboles

vamos hacia los árboles... el sueño
se hará en nosotros por virtud celeste.
vamos hacia los árboles; la noche
nos será blanda, la tristeza leve.

vamos hacia los árboles, el alma
adormecida de perfume agreste.
pero calla, no hables, sé piadoso;
no despiertes los pájaros que duermen.

alfonsina storni

(a very poor and horrid translation can be found here
vamos can be translated as we go, but i liked let's go better)

have a wonderful start of the week

5/30/14

just a minute in may

“a child walked by, rolling a metal hoop that made a sound of autumn.”
― yasunari kawabata

while i work, i can see through my window
how the wind blows and trees change colours.
everything is golden and orange these days
scented with cinnamon and rain.
reading the black sun: the alchemy and art of darkness, stanton marlan
listening to espers
watching cría cuervos
working on a few new projects
feeling very sleepy

have a wonderful day!

4/29/14

just a minute in april

april was a slower, calmer month than march
and i finally had a bit of much needed free time.
i met up with old friends, visited lovely gardens,
and started working on little handmade presents again.

the trees are changing colour and the city seems to be tinted with gold.
everywhere you look there are leaves falling,
dancing in the air with such delicacy,
it warms my heart and makes me wish for a never ending autumn.
reading jude the obscure, thomas hardy
listening to lucy patané & marina fages
watching nymphlight
working on a few new projects
cooking cinnamon cakes and warm soups
taking sun-naps with pixel

have a wonderful day!

la saison des amitiés sincères (III)

february, 2014.
on a cloudy, not-too-hot february afternoon,
after countless emails, letters & movies watched together,
vix and i finally met face to face.

we had a lovely afternoon planned,
with french coffees and vintage books.
but, since the places we wanted to visit were closed,
we decided to improvise and strolled around
chatting & taking lots of pictures.

3/29/14

just a minute in march

a few weeks ago, vix invited me to take part on an autumn special
and i did a guest post with photos and words and also this little playlist with pretty songs

autumn started early this year,
and this past march has been ever so beautiful
with cold mornings and sunny afternoons.
i've started wearing cardigans again
and warm socks, too.

reading palm-of-the-hand stories, yasunari kawabata
listening to this song
working still a lot
cuddling with pixel
eagerly wanting to watch this movie

have a wonderful day!

2/19/14

summer days (IV)

january, 2014.
on a sunny saturday morning,
when the temperatures reached 44ºc,
we packed our bags and escaped to a pool.

we ate poached eggs in white wine & avocados,
grapes and cheese, pork rillettes and honeydew melon;
we played in the water and cooled down beneath the trees.

even in the hotter of days,
there is something so refreshing
about walking barefoot on the grass.

(i'm a bit swamped with work and therefore a bit gone, i'll be fully back in about a week or two!)

2/3/14

a day in january

january, 2014.
on a rainy day, while pixel was taking a nap,
i made spinach rice gratin* & chocolate ice cream.
with chocolate chips!
and without an ice cream machine

hope you have a lovely monday

* i love all of heidi sawnson's recipes, but this gratin has to be the one i made the most
it's so incredibly tasty and so perfect for lunch, i can't resist.

1/22/14

lazy days

december, 2013.
pixel taking an afternoon sunbath
and being his usual, beautiful self.

little cutie pie, i adore him so much.
